It felt appropriate that our inaugural Plant Places post should feature the spots that have brought us so much joy and expanded our plant collection during this past year. Honestly, impulse plant shopping has never been easier—so many of these spots offer delivery and curbside pick-up! Although... there's still nothing quite like getting lost in a maze of shelves overflowing with plants and just not being able to resist ~one~ more plant!
Plants and Friends
A very cute plant shop with two locations in SF + local delivery! We're partial to their Pac Heights location with the perfectly peachy shelves that wiggle their way through the space, but their original location in Hayes Valley is also full of charm (and plants). Their curation of houseplants is top-notch with a wide range from easy going plant pals to the divas that are just too pretty to resist! Plus some highly covetable rare-finds for the collectors as well. Not to mention, they also carry an excellent selection of planters.

Flora Grubb Gardens
A destination in and of itself. It's kind of like a botanical garden—a sprawling indoor/outdoor oasis filled to the absolute brim with plants! You can even guilt-free drag your partner or friend who's not that into plants (😱) to enjoy this magical place. They have an excellent collection of houseplants, but don't sleep on their outdoor plants and trees if your ready to expand outwards! They also carry an expansive range of planters and pots, and even outdoor furniture.

Blk Girls Green House
Taking the houseplant world by storm, Kalkidan Gebreyohannes and J’Maica Roxanne have created a vibrant, welcoming space for plant lovers and beyond. They feature and host pop-ups from fellow Black-owned businesses—not only bringing people together, but also bringing joy into their homes through plants and other carefully curated goods.

The Tender Gardener
Mostly online with the occasional pop-up, The Tender Gardener is a newcomer to the houseplant scene, but already a go-to on our list. Their selection and variety of plants is unmatched and they often offer the same plant in many sizes from petite 4" cuties up to mature 10+" friends ready to make a statement in your home.

Crimson Horticultural Rarities
A unique gem of a plant shop with two locations in Oakland that's a bit hard to pin down. Yes, they're a plant shop, but also do floral design, and they have a highly curated selection of botanically inspired goods for gifting (self-gifting or otherwise 😉).
Flowerland Shop
An Albany all-star for over 70 years. The friendly midcentury vibes of this neighborhood staple are matched with an eclectic range of plants, gardening goods, and beyond. And we really mean beyond—puzzles, books, homewares, jewelry, and more!

Encinal Nursery
This classic nursery in Alameda has everything you need for your garden—indoors or out. But if you're on the hunt for new houseplants, the hot house (pictured) is definitely where it's at.
